    PSA: musk is a fascist and Nazi. Buying cars from Tesla directly supports him and thus all the terrible things he does. There are lots of much better electric cars if that’s what you want

    Edit: I sure kicked a hornets nest saying maybe not buy from the fascist. To be clear: almost every car manufacturer has EVs now, multiple models. If you can’t find one of those that’s good deal and just have to buy Tesla, maybe you just really want a Tesla idk. If you want the ‘good deal’ I highly doubt Tesla really stacks up, but the best deal as always will be buying something used.

                Rich coming from the person trying to justify Tesla cars as not a ripoff when they’re some of the worst shit to come out of North America in the past few decades, equipped with a ripoff self-driving technology that doesn’t work even though it was promised to be coming as a fully fledged feature a decade ago, and which has been getting charged as a complete feature for just as long.

                Maybe, just maybe, the ultra-billionaire fascist asshole who’s hoarding wealth by inflating his companies’ stock prices doesn’t have his costumer’s best interests in mind. I know, shocking, moral values kinda correlate with whether you’re getting ripped off or not, its a crazy concept, and one that the MAGA folks so desperately think they understand but they sorely don’t.

            Key less entry - I’m too used to it. I don’t want to go back to having to carry keys. I leave the house with just my phone and watch, both can pay for things and open things. They’re locked behind my biometrics so I deem it safe.

            Sentry + dashcam - again, this is minimum in today’s day and age to me. The car should always be recording. I’m not getting 3d party camera in a car I already paid +40k for.

            Fleet control - this is very country dependent. I can charge my car using wall plug and get super cheap rate or use a dummy charger which isn’t connected to my electricity supplier and the car will let them know how much electricity the car used and it’ll adjust on my bill. In quantifiable terms, this is a saving of 1/4th of charging cost or one of payment of £900 for installing compatible charger per location.

            Boot space - I have family, space is needed. The easiest thing for cars to achieve really.

            Software - be it accurate navigation, route planning or the touch and feel of it. Tesla Navigation is one I have most experience in. But I have serious confidence in it. I have arrived at home with 0% charge several times because the car said it could. It also got us through insane storm where it also accurately calculated the extra battery drain due to elevation and wind. Do other cars do it? Do they do it well? I know one thing, using Google / apple car play circumvent the in car navigation and charge networks so the built in map is actually important. One day hopefully they start supporting cars and then it’ll be non issue.

            People hate on screen only, but I genuinely have never had problems with it. My wife also has no issues opening glove box, adjusting AC or changing songs or putting gps…

            Driver safety - this is fairly high on the list of things which will male me hate the car. When you watch a car review. Pay attention to when they say “it’s super easy to turn off driver attention system!” THAT is a red flag. A car shouldn’t have such abysmal safety measures they’re annoying and you need to turn them off each drive because they self turn on. MG has the most annoying one and the dealer HAS LITERALLY TURN THEM OFF IN FRONT OF ME before letting me drive the car. I can’t express how bad some of these are.

            Auto steer and cruise control - pretty much standard now days. I don’t need FSD, just simple keep this speed and don’t crash and on motorway, keep in the lane for me. Tesla autopilot is very good but others have come a long way over the 8 years.

            Look - I want a sporty looking car and interior I want it to be leather like feel, no fabric, no tacky “recycled” look. I’m paying serious money and I want some comfort. It’s a low bar and pretty much any car I’ve test driven in the price range has been good enough comfort wise. I personally like minimalistic, but I’m not opposed to say the Taycan level.

            Not a single person has responded with a car yet. Wild how brain washed people got and I’m not going to buy another Tesla either, but if we can’t be honest about every other car being behind and doing fuck all to catch up? Then what’s the point. The level of hate and lack of reasoning is at least amusing. Must be Americans that are this level of stupid? Most of the comments came outside of European active hours.

          Not really, and you have to consider a lot of ‘tech’ is useless crap nobody cares about like door handles that recede into the vehicle.

          People literally just want an electric motor instead of an ICE. Dumb shit like touchscreens and tracking exist because companies charge more for each “feature” than it actually costs to implement.

            There’s no alternative to sentry and keyless entry. Also no fleet control for cheap charging.

            Maybe Rivian or lucid does, but they’re not in Europe. And have their own issues.

            If your argument is “oh I don’t care so neither should you”, it’s a shitty argument.

            Notice the comments below. Not a single one actually came with a real world example of a better car. But hey ho, to be expected. Unfortunately the elon hate while justified, brings a lot of shouting idiots out. Facts unfortunately care not about your feelings.

          Okay but like … In my and the other user’s opinion there are better cars at the same or cheaper price point for what you get.

          I mean I’m not going to write a whole article on it here but I don’t think it’s fair for you to act like Tesla has some magical monopoly on tech in their cars that other manufacturers are lacking. You could argue full self driving mode, maybe, but everything else exists in their competition too.

          Besides even full self driving has its own problems.

            This has been fun to type out. I hope it makes sense. There were many cars which almost made it. I’m waiting for Xpeng test drive which promises all these things. So we shall see. Our model 3 has 91k on it. It’s still a great car and if we need to spend another 3 years with it waiting for something new? That’s fine.

              Agree with all that. Have a T3 with same kind of mileage. Enjoy the car big time. Still I won’t buy a Tesla again because of musk - regardless of how many good offers they keep sending me.

        Eh, kind of. Musk is in this weird position where a lot of his wealth is tied up in one company in a way that he really can’t escape from. That’s why he keeps trying to build up XAI into something meaningful. He needs a back up plan for when Tesla’s share price finally collapses. And he can’t sell his stock because any time he does that it triggers an investor panic.

      Tesla.

      Even before Musk went full mask-off, they only had a single practical vehicle- the Model Y.

      Model S and X are priced like super cars.

      Model 3 is impractical, being a Sedan/Saloon with a fixed rear wall behind the rear seats (it’s not a hatchback)

      Model Y is the only one that’s both practical and mildly affordable (it’s still overpriced) - but you’d be better served by a BYD Atto3 for a third of (~AU$35k) the price and the same build quality.

      (Atto1 is about a quarter of the price AU$24k vs. AU$96k, but it’s not the same build quality, Atto1 is built-to-a-price and that price is low…) (none of the listed prices are drive-away)

            A bit more than 3 billion, a fair amount of it from state and local sources. Also, much of not exclusive to Tesla. (though in practice much of it was, simply because for the longest time was the only real EV manufacturer.

            On the other hand, BYD received a bit less than 4 billion in subsidies that were exclusive to BYD.

            The US EV subsidies weren’t about increasing competitiveness on foreign markets, but rather to increase adoption of EV’s domestically. That is untrue of BYD’s subsidies.

                  AFAIK you can’t get BYD Atto3 in USA or any other ordinary BYD car, because USA won’t allow competition, and has posted steep tariffs on cars from China and EU.
                  So how the fuck would BYD have received carbon credits for 10 years where thy haven’t been able to sell cars in USA?

                  Tesla is every bit as protected and subsidized as any Chinese brand.

      They did announce recently that they’re gonna stop making and selling the Model S and Model X and put more emphasis on humanoid robots and AI instead of cars. Everything over there in Muskland seems so terribly chaotic.
